Senior couple Medicare Basics

Medicare is a government-run health insurance program. They provide health care coverage for people over the age of 65, as well as people with disabilities. It can be a little confusing to understand all of the different aspects of Medicare, so we’ve put together this guide to help you out. In this article, we’ll discuss when you can enroll in Medicare Health Insurance, how to choose the right Medicare Health Plans, and more. We’ll also provide some resources for those who need help with their Medicare enrollment. So read on to learn when and how to enroll in Medicare as well as what plans are available!

When Should You Enroll In Medicare?

You should enroll in Medicare when you turn 65 years old. If you’re already receiving Social Security benefits, you will be automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B. If you’re not receiving Social Security benefits, you’ll need to manually sign up for Medicare through the Social Security Administration website or by calling their office at 1-800-772-1213.

You can also enroll in Medicare before you turn 65 if you’re disabled or have End-Stage Renal Disease. If you’re not sure whether or not you qualify for Medicare, you can use the Social Security Administration’s online screening tool to find out.

How To Choose The Right Health Care Plans

Medicare offers four different parts: Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D. Each part is responsible for different aspects of your health care needs.

Part A covers of inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care.

Part B covers doctor’s visits, outpatient procedures, durable medical equipment, and some preventive services.

Part C is also known as Medicare Advantage. This part of Medicare gives you the option to receive your benefits through a private insurance company instead of through the government.

Part D covers prescription drugs.

You can enroll in any combination of these parts that you need. For example, if you only want coverage for doctor’s visits and prescription drugs, you would enroll in Medicare Part A, B and Part D. Or, if you want coverage for all of your health care needs, you would enroll in all four parts.

You can also change your Medicare Advantage Plan, change to Original Medicare or change between Original Medicare Plans during the annual enrollment period (from October 15 to December 7).
